Cookie Policy

Effective date: [DATE NOT YET SET]

This applies to hillwoodsf.org as a whole — the public website and the parent and staff portals. There is one policy rather than one per area because, unlike the Terms and Privacy Policy, what a cookie is and why it's there doesn't change by audience.

1. The public website sets none

The pages anyone can read without signing in — the ones describing the school, admissions, and the public photo gallery — do not set cookies, and do not load any third-party tracking, advertising, or analytics script. Nothing there needs your browser to remember anything between visits.

2. The parent and staff portals

Signing in to either portal sets cookies placed by our authentication provider, Clerk. These exist only to keep you signed in and to tell your browser apart from someone else's — they are what's usually called strictly necessary cookies: the portal cannot function without them, in the same way a website cannot show you a shopping cart without remembering what's in it. They are not used for advertising, are not shared with any advertiser, and do not track you across other websites.

3. What we don't use

No advertising cookies, no third-party analytics (no Google Analytics or similar), and no social media tracking pixels, anywhere on the site. Fonts are self-hosted rather than loaded from a third-party font service for the same reason — so visiting this site doesn't tell anyone else that you did.

4. Your choices

Because the public website sets no cookies at all, there is nothing there to opt out of. The portals' sign-in cookies can't be individually declined and the portal still work — they are how "signed in" and "signed out" mean anything — but you can always sign out, which ends that session, or block cookies in your browser entirely, which will prevent you from signing in.

5. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, including if that ever changes what the site stores in your browser. The effective date above reflects the most recent revision.
